Welcome to #misec

#misec launched with BSides Detroit 2011. We started with a simple idea: make the BSides experience an ongoing part of life in Michigan. This expanded into monthly meet-ups, workshops, capture the flag teams, and more throughout the state.

We ran Converge and BSides Detroit until 2020 and have been running MISECCON since 2023.

The #MISEC Board of Directors is announcing that we are looking to add two additional members to the board!

We are looking for individuals interested in helping to grow our community, cultivate an inclusive space for learning and professional development, and coordinate events. The hours required will vary, expect a minimum of two hours worth of responsibility every week with the potential for large increases as we get closer to MISECCON and similar events. There are no requirements to being a member of the Board. Any person of good character and a willingness to lead, dream, and do are encouraged to apply.

The board is purely volunteer ran and there is no compensation for these positions.

We will be taking applications through the end of September. The existing Board will review all applications and will make a determination on all applicants. There may be a single round of interviews depending on the volume of applications. The top two applicants will be invited to join. Our decision will be reached and announced by the end of October.

Students

Students have the opportunity to learn from real world professionals and gain some out of classroom experience through misec. They are also welcome to participate in events, talks, and more.

Developers

Security starts with developers. Developers are encouraged to work with us to understand why security is so important and how to protect the applications you work on or break them before a hacker can.
